Tours of Scotland - Leave The Herd Behind
I was
born in the Fife mining town of Buckhaven and raised, for the most
part,
in the East Neuk fishing village of Cellardyke. My early work years
were spent in St Andrews, followed by many years of working throughout
the Kingdom of Fife as both a Community Educator and Arts Organizer.
For
the past ten years I have organized and guided my Small Group Tours
of Scotland. The whole premise of this Tour Company is to try and
provide opportunities for discovery and understanding - not just
notching sites. Thus I try, as best I can, to persuade travelers
not to request an endurance test for an itinerary, and, to limit
each group is to an absolute maximum of 18 people (unless by special
request), with a typical small group being just 8 people.
I prefer
to guide groups through Scotland in a relaxing manner, staying at
two or three base locations from which we can visit sites of interest
- and not have to move luggage every day. My small group members
tend to be travelers rather than tourists, enjoying seeing behind
the tourist façade, while visiting with "locals"
and visiting many sites not normally seen by the regular tourist.
One
of the best base locations is Dunkeld
which is one of my favourite towns in all of Scotland. Not only
is the town and local area very beautiful, but Dunkeld is ideally
situated as a base location, within easy driving distance to numerous
other great Scottish sites including; Perth, Loch Ness, St Andrews,
Edinburgh, Stirling, Pitlochry, Edradour, Crieff, Aberfeldy, Dundee,
and a hundred points of interest in between. The Dunkeld area truly
makes for an excellent base from which to tour much of Scotland.
Many
group members visit Scotland to trace their Scottish ancestry; others
to golf or fish; most come to simply enjoy the beautiful scenery,
historic buildings and gardens, and most of all, to meet and enjoy
the people of Scotland. My Small Group Tours can be best described
as being " couthy. "
It's a Scottish word meaning " gentle."
